Welcome to Arjun's personal website. Follow the links in the "MTRS" box to the different parts of this site.

A little background on this site's domain name:
In early 2001 I was working for the Coast Mountain Bus Company in an Engineering Co-op position. At the time I needed a new project, and felt like picking up a second domain name (I already owned Japanese-Animation.net, which had been stagnating for quite some time). I couldn't figure out what to use for my new domain's name-- it was the height of the internet bubble, and it seemed there were no "good" domain names left. I knew that I wanted something short (5 characters or less), and I hoped that it was something that would fit with my lifestyle and interests.

So that brought up a good question-- what are my interests? What's my lifestyle?
I like all things mechanical-- buses, ferries, cars, bikes... I'm also an outdoor sports enthusiast-- I like hiking, mountain biking, skiing... I like efficiency, I like comfort, and I'm an advocate of mass-transportation systems. I hate being packed into a bus like a sardine. I also hate waiting around at a cold, wet bus stop on a rainy day for a bus that may or may not have enough space and may or may not be running on time.

So I put all those things together,
and found that I could make an acronym out of what resulted, and the .ORG version of that acronym was available. Essentially I'd just made a nifty, short domain name that served to make a good laugh-- Mass Transit Really Sucks (MTRS.ORG). I love my cars/bikes/skis/feet, hate waiting for buses/planes/trains/ferries, and so, Mass Transit Really Sucks. heh.

A final note:
Do I really expect many people to read through this site's contents? No. This site serves mainly as a creative outlet-- a place to toss my hypoglycemia-induced rants so that I'll be able to remember them in the future, no matter where I might be in the world at the time. Anybody, of course, is welcome to have a glance into my world through this site. Perhaps you'll get a better idea of who I am, perhaps I'll just confuse you.

Site incompleteness Oct. 7 '02
Unfortunately, I've been pretty busy in the last month, so I haven't had quite the amount of time that I'd hoped to have to work on this site. Some of the links within this site's pages don't work yet-- hopefully I'll get them running soon, though.

New site design Aug. 19 '02
Well, the time's come. Previously this site's been half-baked... Something's always missing-- I've never had the inspiration to really develop it properly. Once in a while, when job-searching I've updated it slightly so that I could stick "MTRS.org" on my resume, but I've never really been satisfied by it. I suppose the initial laugh from buying the domain name itself (and having email addresses on this domain) were pretty good on their own. But hey, this afternoon I decided that it was time for me to do some real work on it. New design, new content, even some images! That's what's gonna go up here over the next week/month/year/years.

Or so I hope.

The diet's working! Aug. 19 '02
Yep, so far so good. A month after I started keeping track of what I eat and reduced my carb intake, I've dropped 10 lbs, and it's noticeable. I'm thrilled.

Visit the "diet" section for more info.
